What are the World Champs?
Triathlon New Zealand (Tri NZ) selects Age Group Athletes to compete at six ITU World Champ events each year:
- World Standard Distance Triathlon Champs
- World Sprint Distance Triathlon Champs
- World Paratriathlon Champs
- World Long Distance Triathlon Champs
- World Duathlon Champs
- World Long Distance Duathlon Champs
Triathlon and Duathlon are one of the few sports where no matter what age you are, you get the opportunity to pull on the black singlet and represent your country to compete against the worlds best. The International Triathlon Union (ITU) hold these World Championship events every year in different locations around the world, these competitions are the pinnacle events for Elite and Age Group Athletes each year. The championships are a great way to see the world by mixing travel and sport and regardless of your age or ability gaining a place in a Age Group World Champs team is acheivable for those that are willing to train hard.
