New Zealand's James Bowstead has continued his strong form on the 70.3 race circuit in the United States.

Currently in the US training alongside fellow Kiwi Terenzo Bozzone, Bowstead produced a top five result at the Buffalo Springs Lake Ironman 70.3.

Bowstead missed the lead pack in the 2km swim but gained plenty of time on the 90km bike with the second fastest time of the day (2:11:54).

The searing pace on the bike meant he had heavy legs in the run but Bowstead battled on to hang onto an impressive 5th place finish.

"Hardest race I have ever done. The heat was like nothing I have ever experienced!," Bowstead commented on his twitter account.

It's a continuation of his fine form following another 5th place at the Ironman 70.3 EagleMan in Maryland just a few weeks ago.

Earlier this month he also finished 17th at Rev3 Connecticut, where Bozzone also raced and finished 2nd in his comeback from an Achilles injury.
