2012 London Olympics

1.0 General

1.1 A maximum of three men and three women may be selected for the New Zealand Triathlon Team. The Triathlon New Zealand selectors are Lynley Brown, Damian Pedreschi, and Barry Larsen. The selectors will select athletes for nomination to the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC). The NZOC will select athletes for the Team.

1.2 Selection in the Triathlon Team to compete in London will be contingent on the NZOC policy. The overriding selection criteria determined by the NZOC is that we will select individual athletes who, through World Rankings and credible top level international competition performances, have demonstrated the ability to finish within the top 16 at the 2012 London Olympic Games, with the potential to win an Olympic Diploma (top 8). In addition, selected athletes must abide by the points outlined below.

1.3 The final nomination of athletes to the NZOC will be at the sole discretion of the selectors. The selection criteria below are guidelines detailing how the selectors will carry out this nomination and may be overridden in exceptional circumstances.

2.0 Requirements and Eligibility

2.1 The athlete must be of good standing with Tri NZ and be eligible according to the NZOC eligibility criteria.

2.3 All potential team members must be on the DFSNZ register no later than 6 months prior to the games.

2.4 Eligibility for acceptance into the selection races will be based purely on the ITU criteria for these races.
