The NZ age group team won two silver medals and secured six top 10 placings at the World Standard Distance Duathlon Championships in Gijon, Spain.
In hot, humid conditions the silver medal performances by Adam Milne in the 20-24 age group and Carolyn Smith in the (50-54) were outstanding.
Milne had a great bike ride but felt the effects of his third place effort at the World Long Course Duathlon in Zofingen just two weeks ago.
"My legs felt dead on the second run," Milne said after the race.
The ever smiling Carolyn Smith was chasing two leading American athletes on the second run and made up 40 seconds on the first of the two laps. She passed them in the final stages to secure the silver medal.
The 14 member New Zealand team can be proud of their efforts in tough conditions.
