Triathlon NZ High Performance 2012 Time Trial Policy
2012 Development and Olympic Development Squads
1. Time Trial Criteria
1.1 This time trial policy is for athletes who have already achieved the performance criteria in the nominated selection races (see separate squad selection policy).
1.2 To confirm selection for the Development and Olympic Development squads all athletes must submit a 400m swim (50m pool – no wetsuit) and a 5km track run time trial result to National Coach or Assistant National Coach by the 16th April 2012.
1.3 These time trials (TT's) need not be performed on the same day but must be completed before the 16th of April 2012 and be endorsed by a credited person set by the National Coach or Assistant National Coach.
1.4 As it is a big step up from racing U19 sprint distance to U23 Olympic distance we recognise there needs to be a progression, therefore the TT times are slightly easier in your first year out of U19s.
1.5 In order to be eligible to be considered for selection into the squads, athletes must achieve the following minimum results in the TT's below in both the swim and run. However, if they are world class at this stage of their triathlon development (world class is considered as a performance within 15% of the world best) in either 400m swim or 5km run and within 4% of the swim time or 2% of the run times (see world class times below in 1.7) they will be considered for selection. This is aligned with our discretionary criteria as stipulated in our squad selection policy:
