Tri NZ's Coach Development Strategic Plan & Framework
What is Tri NZ's role in triathlon coaching?
The four key ways Tri NZ aims to support the sport of triathlon through coaching are:
1. Recruitment - identifying and attracting people to triathlon coaching.
Example: Tri NZ offers a Tri-Start Leader module for parents and teachers who are supporting kids aged 7-12 participating in triathlon. This module is designed as an introduction to coaching.
2. Retention - supporting and rewarding coaches so they remain in coaching.
Example: Tri NZ communicates regularly with coaches, providing articles of interest and links to coach development opportunities in the community. Tri NZ is committed to creating a 'community of triathlon coaches' in which coaches feel they are part of a collective effort to grow and develop the sport.
3. Recognition - recognising the contribution coaches make to the sport, particularly with youth and in schools.
Examples:All accredited coaches are identified on the website; there is an annual Coach of the Year award; coach profiles appear in Triathlon and Multisport magazine; logos, caps, and clothing identifying coaches as being Tri NZ accredited coaches are distributed each year.
4. Development - providing meaningful and achievable development opportunities which complement the self-learning activities coaches undertake.
Examples: Tri NZ provides Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 coach programmes plus a range of modules. In addition, Tri NZ provides opportunities for coaches to attend external forums and workshops.
