New Zealand athletes had a hugely successful campaign at the ITU World Championships Grand Final in Beijing.

A total of 88 age group athletes represented New Zealand in the Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons as well as the Aquathlon, hauling in 28 medals overall.

Across the three events, New Zealand won 8 gold medals, 7 silver and 13 bronze along with a raft of close finishes.

Many also took part in more than one event, with four athletes taking home two medals.

Hamish Hammond (20-24 age group), Rebecca Clarke (20-24) and Tiare Lund (65-69) all won gold in both the Olympic distance triathlon and the Aquathlon while Tanya Dromgool (25-29) won gold in the Aquathlon and bronze over the Olympic distance.

There were plenty of good battles within the age groups, with 64 athletes overall crossing the line within the top 10.

Tri NZ Member/World Champs Manager Claire Attwood congratulated the entire Kiwi team on their outstanding efforts in Beijing.

"Every one of the Kiwi athletes gave it their all in Beijing and have done us all proud,” she said.

"This is one of our most successful events in terms of medals and top results which is fantastic.

"Hopefully the Kiwis can keep building on that going into next year's World Champs Grand Final on home soil in Auckland.”
