Programme Training Information

Triathlon New Zealand understands that in order for you to compete at your best - you may need some help.  Sometimes this can be tough as you may be a long distance from a triathlon club - or there may be no club coaching in your region.

To help solve this issue we have developed some generic programmes (depending on your level) for you to freely download and use in your buildup for your Weet-Bix event,  Regional or National Triathlon, Duathlon or Multisport Championships.  Please select your FREE programme from the level and sport list below:

Triathlon

Weet-Bix (via Try-Trainer section of the Weet-Bix website)

Beginners/ Junior

  Moderate/ Intermediate
  Hard/ Senior
Duathlon Year 7 & 8 Program
  Beginners/ Junior
  Moderate/ Intermediate
  Hard/ Senior

Please note: If you have your own coach it is always best to consult with them if there are differences in these programmes to theirs (there may be a very good reason for this) and the programmes will not be suitable for all athletes; so we suggest you implement them under guidance of a knowledgeable sports person and with permission of you medical practitioner.

Keys to success:

  1. Join your local swimming club and strive to meet the 'Junior Target times' as outlined in this section of the website
  2. Become a master at key skills and techniques.  Long term if you have developed correct running, cycling and swimming skills you will avoid injuries, and maximize your potential.  To find out more about coaches who may be able to assist you in your region please visit the coaching section of this website
  3. Enjoy yourself!

Target Times

Triathlon New Zealand now offers a target time sheet for all aspiring junior Triathletes.

Please note; these times are a guide for athletes, coaches and parents and are aimed at a developmental pathway to Elite level Triathlon racing.
