At Tri NZ we are continually working to improve the value we deliver to our sport. As the overall caretaker for our sport and as the National Body responsible for seeing the sport grow and prosper, a key avenue for us to add value is to assist event/race directors in ensuring that all triathlon/duathlon/multisport races are both safe and fair. We believe that the more participants who have both a safe and fair experience at events, then the more likely they will be to return to participate again and again, which will benefit the sport overall.
Triathlon NZ provides 2 different certification standards for the hosting of events in New Zealand
Endorsement:
Targeted more at club/regional participation based triathlon/duathlon/multisport events focusing on a safe and fun event where rules are not enforced.
When possible Triathlon New Zealand Representative attends the event to offer support but not to enforce the rules and also provides a post event evaluation – valuable for future sponsorship/funding.
Sanctioning
Targeted at National Championship or similar level triathlon/duathlon/multisport events where the Triathlon NZ rules are enforced for the event.
Race Referee and technical officials (number dependant on race size) provided for race day to monitor race rules.
Post event evaluation provided by referee.
Further Benefits for being endorsed/sanctioned

- Promotion of event to Tri NZ database of members
- Branding - Use of Tri NZ. Brand association with the national body brings credibility to the race and another sales angle for sponsorship opportunities.

- Media 101- Document explaining what the media like to see in a press release and how to best handle the media to get the best promotion for your event - includes sample press release.
- Multisport Magazine Calendar - Event published in 'endorsement and sanctioning calendar' within the Tri NZ pages of teh Multisport Magazine.
- TriWoman Newsletter Calendar - Event will be included in the TriWoman newsletter calendar which is sent out to the TriWoman database every 4-6 weeks.
The philosophy behind the standards is not one of "policeman" and making things difficult for event directors, but rather of wanting to add value to events and the sport as a whole. We have a long term vision for these race standards and will therefore strive to continually improve them and we welcome any suggestions as to other ways in which we can add value to your events.
