New Plymouth City Bus Services

A City Bus travelling along a street in New Plymouth.

A new look bus service is now operating in New Plymouth, Bell Block, Waitara and Oakura. These services are run by Okato Bus Lines (with assistance from the Taranaki Regional Council) and will be trialled over an eighteen month period from 1 July 2006 to gauge public support.

Weekday services
Route 333    Marfell - Spotswood service
Route 444    Westown - hospital service
Route 555    Vogeltown - Frankleigh service
Route 777    Merrilands - Fitzroy service
Route 888    Waitara - New Plymouth service (return)
Route 14      Oakura - New Plymouth service (return)

Saturday services
Route 222    Saturday New Plymouth West service
Route 999    Saturday New Plymouth East service

All services (except the Oakura run - which is available only during the secondary school term) are synchronised and converge at the Ariki St Bus Station.

Children, secondary school students, tertiary students, beneficiaries, senior citizens and holders of Access cards are able to travel at subsidised rates. An agreement with WITT and its student association has enabled students and staff to travel free.  Passengers can also transfer within an hour of purchasing a ticket to a second route at no extra charge.

Information on the new routes, their timetables, fares and contacts details are provided on Okato Bus Line's website.

For any additional information on these services, or to obtain a copy of a timetable, please contact Okato Bus Lines on 06-753 9646 or the Taranaki Regional Council on 06-765 7127.  Timetables are also available from bus drivers, any library or service centre in the New Plymouth District and the Ariki Street Bus Station.
